Meet Giorgos, our Head of Mobile and Web Platforms
The Tech team builds and maintains the Tide app that our members use every day. We’d love for you to meet the people behind the software engineering team – so first up, here’s Giorgos, Head of Mobile & Web Platforms at Tide.
👋Hey Giorgos! Introduce yourself in a sentence.
Hello, I’m Giorgos and I’m responsible for all things relating to the iOS, Android & Web platforms.
What’s your background?
I’m a coder at heart. I have a rich Flash & Flex background but since 2010-11 I have been coding iOS apps. I did work on few native Android apps when I was migrating to mobile but iOS won me over.
How did you cross paths with Tide? / What made you want to join Tide?
I knew I wanted to join Tide even before the first phone call with the CTO at that time. It was a gut feeling. And I always follow what my gut is telling me.
Typical working day:
Making sure that the “Tide Release train” leaves on time and with all passengers aboard. And also making sure that my teams are happy and are not blocked by anything.
What’s your favourite Tide feature?
I can’t really choose easily as I maintain a holistic view of our product. But I guess I have a really strong relationship with Credit, since I’ve worked on it from the very beginning and until we released it to our members.
What’s the most interesting tech challenge you’ve came across since you joined Tide?
Managing technical debt and feature delivery at the same time is by far the most challenging but most interesting at the same time.
Favourite desk snack?
Donuts and sugary processed stuff aren’t allowed any more so you’ll only find fruit and coffee. Lots of coffee.
What’s your hidden talent?
I wouldn’t call it a talent but I love Lindy Hop and Rock’n’Roll dancing! It has been a while since the last time though…
When you’re not at Tide, what’s your favourite thing to do?
“Some people call me an iOS developer, the most important calls me dad.” I love taking my son to museums and art exhibitions, and travelling with him and my wife. Life is all about memories. And eating good food.
